Did You See That Drop Goal? Cedar Rapids Defeats the Rockford Ravens
Despite kicking 0-2 this weekend during Cedar Rapids defeat of the Rockford
Ravens, fullback Mike Yager, the self-proclaimed 'King of Drop Goals', fulfilled
his promise to make himself a trophy. Yagers fame began when he added 3 in a 47 meter attempt in the Headhunters victory over Wayne State in the championship game of their tournament... and he's never looked back. When asked for comment Yager mused
"Ladies love me, I think I'm gonna punch that kid."
Drop goals aside, the Cedar Rapids Headhunters handed a solid defeat to the
Rockford Ravens in their final home match of the season. Three cheers for the
Men of the Match Jason 'Red' Nosek and Tim 'erehere’ Rose.
This match also marks the final test for the Headhunters before heading to Iowa
Falls for the 2009 All Iowa tournament. Success in this tournament has been the goal of
the club for the entire spring season, focused on redemption after last years
poor performance the weekend after the Midwest region playoffs.
A lot has been learned this season, with new players stepping up and old boys
staying committed and showing everyone how it's done, the Headhunters are
driven and ready to close this season out with a bang both at the All Iowa and
the final match of the season in Des Moines.
After Defeating the Irish, Cedar Rapids Prepares for Dubuque
Cedar Rapids routed the Quad
City Irish this past Saturday, defending their perfect record at home and
improving their spring record to 2-1. Clearly motivated by the previous
weekends lost against a tough Bremer County, the Headhunters came out hard from
the start and played headstrong and focused until the final whistle. Congrats
to the Men of the match for this test; pack player Jeremy Daughetee, and backs
Ricky "Bobby" Legree and Mike Coulter. The match was followed by a
trip to our social home Paddy O'Rourkes for a night of food, song, and spirits.
Thanks to the Irish for making the trip and all of our fans who joined us at
the pitch and afterwards at the social.
This next weekend the Cedar Rapids Headhunters will be headed to Dubuque to
participate in the 2009 Spring Rugby Challenge. With the bracket set the
Headhunters have been intensely
focused on the task at hand, opening against the host Dubuque team at
9am followed by a much anticipated rematch against Bremer County at 11.
